@TheasterGates is a talented, Chicago-based artist who fuses archival photos of Black life with everyday materials. Michelle and I are so excited that Theaster has created a new piece for the Obama Presidential Center that will highlight the contributions of Black women to the political and social landscape of America.

Real leadership comes from knowing when it’s time to make room and opportunities for others. Thank you to @progressive for bringing us this moment.

Chicago is where Michelle was raised, where I got my start as an organizer, and where we built a family together. When the Obama Presidential Center opens next June, it will be our way to give back to a city that has given us so much. More than just a museum, the Center will serve as a vibrant hub for the community. It will include a new branch of the Chicago Public Library, a community garden, a basketball court, a recording studio, classrooms, and more. We want the Center to be a space where people come together and new ideas are born. And we hope that Chicagoans and people from around the world will visit and enjoy this space for years to come.

Fear is an inescapable part of life—and if you learn how to face it, it can fuel your growth instead of stifling your dreams. Thank you to @progressive for helping bring this powerful moment to life.
